As someone who got into Linux in 2010 because a classmate said "just use Ubuntu" and have been trying to switch to it ever since, I appreciate this rare breed of honesty in the Linux community. Now-a-days, when looking for mods, it seems like every game has a mod manager that is 100% windows only and there's no way to install them manually. For creativity, you can maybe use a different app and get the same results whether or not it takes longer. But you can't find an "alternative" to Elden Ring. There's no "alternative" to Skyrim, or Final Fantasy VIII, or blah blah blah. You would just be playing a different game. And when you're getting a group together to have a Halo LAN party, you can't just run some different game as an "alternative". In my experience, paid tools are always better than the free stuff. I can pretty much count on my hand how many free programs are good enough for professional use. Blender, OBS, Unity... I think that's it. And when you look at it, there are enough users who back it financially to make sure it's properly maintained. Without significant financial backing, OBS would probably be stuck in the same state it was 10 years ago. Linux Zealots will ignore these truths and say Linux is the way to go because... something something command line is faster if you know it. Oh god, you mentioned having to build aseprite yourself to use on Linux and how it's spotty on Wayland. Users don't want to be on a platform where they have to double check what graphics compositor is being used before choosing what software to use. And nobody wants to live in an ecosystem where they need to learn developer tools even if they're not a developer. Some people want to try beef wellington, but we shouldn't require everyone cook it themselves after assembling the ovens from individual parts. To say it simply, I guess, the zealots will tell you there's a million apps for you to use. Having a million grapes doesn't mean anything if only 3 of them aren't rotten.
dude the portable tip was so nice. i never really thought about how annoying it is to indulge in those default install options when i only use one windows account in reality. tldr i don't want random little files in a random hidden folder.
Yeah sadly we creative peeps are stuck with Windows. I use Clip Studio, Toonboom Harmony, and now After Effects on a daily basis and none of them have Linux support. Playing around on with Plasma on my Steam Deck felt like the desktop was actually mine. We can always dream of escaping Microsoft.
Just ordered! Thanks man!
i think i uninstalled microsoft store. is that going to cause me problems? anything i can do??
8:15 Ok, is it just me or from videos like this you get the feeling that all people on planet earth make money making videos and music, I don't even know the difference why a micro card reader in a laptop is worse than a regular card reader.
To add to your argument, the only reason I have a Windows installation is for two music plugins: Addictive Drums, and Izotope. Drum beat making with AD is amazing. Gizmodrummer sucks, and Superior Drummer I think "can" be installed but I prefer Addictive Drums since I don't need "muh metal" kits. That is probably the only thing I can see as a reason why not to switch. Even Steam Proton is getting so good.
Just use a Windows VM in QEMU for your edge cases. You seem like a guy that has an amazing computer. Just use GPU passthrough for those edge cases and use Linux for everything else.
I would pay full price for Windows if they did the following: 1) completely dumped their current code and built it from the ground up 2) split tablet and desktop modes into different operating systems instead of different modes for the same operating system 3) made ALL telemetry opt-in.
It crashes when i import the congifiguration
Unity is no longer a standard DE on Ubuntu; that was true up to several years ago.
Some rando housefife would drag and drop by mistake and then call windows support for 2 hrs... I think thats why they do things besides trying to go rental model...
6:30 YOU HAVE TO! hahahahahahaha the energy!! great video !! Just as I hear you talk about RIVEN new game... I wishlist it ASFAST as i could xD A NEW GEM*!
Tek, how many dicks do you have to suck to get into the one eye club?
After trying a ton of the sad sad music players on Linux, some of which didn't even work, I ended up using Audacious, which is just Winamp :D
I've slowly stopped doing things on the desktop like photography/editing or using specialized software, so I'm finally moving to desktop Linux. Games seem to work well enough, as I haven't had issues really on a lab system I've tested for a bit, so come summer holiday, gaming rig is finally getting a new home. Probably Nobara as I moved it from GNOME to KDE and it's really nice, but Pop!OS is still in the game too. Unfortunately the KVM software I use, doesn't support Wayland, so still stuck on X11 for now on the lab PC. Haven't really had issues with monitors, got a 27" 1440p 160Hz and a 34" Ultrawide 165Hz atm. Haven't bothered with more for now. I would like to have a TV plugged in as well, but that's on a laptop. It's so weird to have small indie games work on Linux, even as native. Been playing stuff like Balatro, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor and Skald atm. EVE Online seems to run fine too. Never really bothered with modding as I want to play the game, not wonder why something is glitching or just unstable.
Google is a wing of the military industrial complex.
Your pixel art for your click-and-point game looks awesome!
Nice video, all your reasoning makes sense and is understandable, I would maybe reconsider the VM route as it can actually be a really nice workflow but you should also look to a newer distro base than current Debian stable. Wayland for example is much much better now but you need a much more up to date distro base than Debian stable offers for it to be so as most of the massive work to make it better has happened more recently than the last Debian stable release. Debian is great for servers and similar use cases but for a desktop daily driver it can be many months and even years behind with quality of life improvements and fixes made specifically for desktop use cases. Wayland (explicit sync, HDR, VRR, other newer protocols), gaming (NTSync, newer wine/proton etc), newer desktop environments are just a small slice of things lacking in Debian right now (it will be good times when these are all merged in).
The best way ive heard it said, in referance to the devs defeating the difficulty with cheese is this The game is inherintly unfair, it will take advantage of you. The handshake is that the game wont stop you from taking advantage of the game As for the acessability of an "easy mode", act-man said it best. The easy mode would go against the function of the game, not struggle against adversity, but lets say that is not what the game is about. It would still require less, i believe resources would be the best word? put into the game. It would need to be a whole remodel ground up, from how the enimies act, the ai, the level system, the damage calcs. It would require so much effort that it would irrepairable damage the games ability to be so enamouring. The beauty of the game is if you put in the effort, to learn the mechanics and how the enemies work, what we call "get good" you dont have to take damage. Yes i agree that some bosses need some rework, but only very minor, a bit of build up to their attacks (Melanlia, im looking at you).
my desktop pc broke, so I've stopped pc gaming. switched to linux on my laptop since w11 is bloat and the laptops have been running worse and worse. i love linux
i love how i bought the 8800 XFX alpha dog on your reccomendation. I wonder how sometimes :P xxx omg just rewatched the tiger direct vid. You have not changed buddy. You are great and i love you for it.
must confirm if it ends up in your entertainment system?
Probably... I am about to install Fedora on it and mess around... so I might use it for more videos on Fedora first.
anyone still rocking in 2024
It would have been funny to put a first gen Threadripper chip on top of this thing to size compare.
Get rhythmbox to replace foobar 😅
it's an average replacement for iTunes... but it's not in the same ballpark... or even planet as foobar2000.
The problem with Windows is too many fixes before it is usable. How Microsoft can get away with selling that garbage is beyond understanding. You literally have disable the digital r*pe kit t3lementry before using it.
I want to go to Japan this year. Do you know what area sells a lot of good smile/figma figures?
Nakano Broadway... the alleys have AMAZING food and the 2nd-4th floors are loaded with anime, figures, cells, etc. Some of it is older stuff, but it has some new stuff as well. Otherwise, Akihabara is the best spot for figures, but the food is a lot better at Nakano.
Finally a video that fully explain why i cant move to linux too For me linux is just isn't there yet, all i care is my professional softwares and games is just work out of the box after installing it
Have you tried Guayadeque music player? It's the best music player on Linux IMHO but check it yourself. It does a lot but sadly it's no longer in many repos, but it's not a dead project.
I could write pages about why it's such a great music player
"Windows build upon capitalism" Proceed to talk about SteamOS which also Steam used to sell their devices on their platform (Steam... App? No Linux users know about that tho), I mean who could even thought about that Linux users. Owh they supported Wine/Bottle? Because why not? It does not support their Steam Marketplace at all. Just like Google supporting Android/Linux then screwup the open-source project later, what a capitalism there... TBH, some 'FOSS advocate' are retarded, didn't mention the underlying and future problem other FOSS projects problems, like OpenSSL, who know wut huppen...
I use Startallback in my Win11 laptop and classic shell in my Win10 gaming rig. Why Microsoft hates its users? Everyone agrees Win7 was the best UI. I understand why people hate Windows, because of the start menu. But it's a simple fix
We're definitely stuck with Windows as our main machine. Definitely on the same boat as you.. I deal with Linux servers and desktops in VMs and do things that don't require much graphic processing. What you said in the last part seems interesting. Maybe have Windows with no internet, huh. Hmm...
I miss Tiger TV. good times
I understand that you are stuck to Microsoft Windows, but only because of your games. In my honest opinion, modern games are often bloatware as many titles will take several gigabytes or more, as games seriously attempt to follow the latest technology trends and possibly even future technology trends with the maximum possible amount of detail. But on the other hand, I believe that creative applications and media players (including music) are non-reasons to remain on Microsoft Windows. However, within the next eighteen to thirty months, if your situation changes, I recommend transfer to Linux.
Linus NEVER impressed me with any of his fake knowledge. Quit watching his BS 10 years ago. 🙄 Are you doing a review of "Shadow of the Erdtree"?
I still use windows 7 on my laptop because of how unnatural other OS'es feel to me. They never work well and look bland and unrealistic and come with so much unnecessary stuff.
This mini PC is generating a lot of excitement. You have the 12th gen i9. Imagine if you got the 13th gen i9. So many things you can do with this. Very cool.
Im an artist and all the art software I use is on windows :( things like clip studio and after effects etc
For my usage, it's all the minor issues that shouldn't exist. For example, Steam tries launching some games using their exe for Windows, instead of their Linux binaries. How did Valve mess that up?
works with ps5?
I don't get Foobar2000. I guess it is okay if you want to stare at it while listening to music and want to endlessly configure it(ironic) and the default sound quality is very muddled. Other than that, I don't see the appeal of this over something like Clementine or its fork, Strawberry which is perfect for having music play in the background while working and sounds good out of the box.
If you’re concerned about VST’s in Linux, it’s no trouble. I do music production on my Debian box all the time using windows VST’s, using VeStige or Carla wrappers.
The whole "this software they force me to use at work doesn't run in Linux" is sooo useless. That's like saying "The only good video format is VHS because this obscure film I like never made it to DVD or BluRay" or "You can't play on Xbox because it doesn't have Mario." Some stuff is only available on one platform/medium/OS, yes, everybody understands that. That's not interesting. The only reason to use Windows is Windows-only software. There, that's everything you need to know, That's a five seconds video. For everything else, Windows is years behind pretty much everything else.
Just wait when you figure out that the earth is flat, unmoving and covered by a dome.
Looking for 2 48gb with oculink version...
The gag with the Pyst box was fantastic.
I personally just want to add accessibility. Such a mood, I feel these sentiments on so many levels. Great video, awesome details and really in-depth!
I liked Shadowrun better on Sega Genesis than SNES.
time to unsub. all this channel is anymore are product reviews. snooze fest.
This month I did a long video discussing Linux, a tutorial on VPS servers where I installed various c-panel alternatives and set up websites, a video called, "Can we save Windows 11," where I discussed community efforts to make Windows better... and I did a few hardware videos. So... maybe check my recent videos before you post nonsense.
@@teksyndicate opinions vary. all good dude, it's your channel make whatever vids you want but it's not nonsense to say you've been posting a TON of product reviews. having 1 or 2 other types of vids doesn't offset that. maybe check your recent videos before you post nonsense.
